Sodium alginate is a natural polysaccharide that can form a gel-like porous structure in water. These pores are capable of capturing and physically adsorbing suspended particles and certain organic pollutants in the water, particularly macromolecular organic substances or negatively charged pollutants. In addition, the carboxyl groups (-COO⁻) in sodium alginate can undergo ion exchange with some ions in the water (such as metal ions), thereby removing certain ionic pollutants.
The copper oxide acts as a photocatalyst under light. When exposed to sunlight, copper oxide generates electron-hole pairs that initiate a photocatalytic reaction. This process produces reactive species, such as hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ions, which break down organic pollutants into harmless byproducts like carbon dioxide and water.
We can effectively purify the following items:
The carboxyl groups in sodium alginate can effectively capture and remove heavy metal ions through ion exchange.
